چکیده
Abstract Introduction: The aim of this study was to clinically evaluate lid margin abnormality, meibomian glands expression and tear function changes in patients with primary pterygium. Methods: Fifty normal 50 pterygia participants without other ocular pathologies were randomly selected from who attended an ophthalmology visit. gland expression, break-up time, Schirmer's test results surface disease index (OSDI) evaluated. Multiple meniscus values include the lower height (TMH), depth (TMD) area (TMA) also measured using time-domain coherence tomography. Comparative analyses between groups performed for all parameters. A statistical significance level P < 0.05 considered. Association abnormality scores, time Results: Ocular index, scores significantly higher pterygium than normals (P 0.001). Tear results, TMH, TMD TMA donot differ two > 0.05). Correlation analysis demonstrated that correlated Conclusions: Primary may cause alteration expressions, which is associated discomfort. Early detection seem be important understand relationship pterygium, film functions surface.

Evaluation of meibomian gland and tear film changes in patients with pterygium
BACKGROUND Recent studies have demonstrated that pterygium has a close relationship with dry eye disease. This study is to determine abnormalities in meibomian gland and tear function in patients with pterygium and to assess the relationship between the variables. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty eyes from forty patients with primary nasal pterygium and forty eyes from forty volunteers without ocu...
متن کاملMeibomian Gland Dysfunction Correlates to the Tear Film Instability and Ocular Discomfort in Patients with Pterygium
Pterygium is a very common disease in an eye clinic characterized by a benign proliferation of local conjunctiva that often crosses the limber of cornea and extends into corneal surface. Variety of studies has showed that pterygium is able to result in ocular discomfort and the change of ocular surface environment, such as dry eye. However, the link between abnormal tear film function and ptery...
متن کاملA solute gradient in the tear meniscus. II. Implications for lid margin disease, including meibomian gland dysfunction.
We have hypothesized previously that evaporation from the tears generates a solute gradient across the tear meniscus, which delivers hyperosmolar stress to the mucocutaneous junction (MCJ) of the lid margin. This is proposed as the basis for Marx's line, a line of staining with topically applied dyes that lies directly behind the MCJ. In this article, we consider the implications of this hypoth...
متن کاملDecreased tear lipocalin concentration in patients with meibomian gland dysfunction.
BACKGROUND/AIM Recent studies have demonstrated that tear lipocalin (TL) and phospholipids have a crucial role in maintaining tear film stability. The level of TL in patients with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) was examined and these data were correlated with the severity of their clinical disorder. METHODS 12 patients with obstructive MGD, 12 patients with seborrhoeic MGD, and 12 age matc...
متن کاملComparison of Schirmer's test and tear film breakup time test to detect tear film abnormalities in patients with pterygium.
OBJECTIVE To compare tear film breakup time test with Schirmer's test in patients with pterygium. METHODS The case-control study, involving 86 patients with unilateral primary pterygium aged between 30 and 70 years, was conducted at the Department of Ophthalmology, Karachi Medical and Dental College, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, from May 2009 to December 2010. The eye with pterygium was taken as ...
